In a continued bid to keep our valued clients informed, kindly be advised that the Western Cape Deeds Registry: Cape Town is currently experiencing unforeseen delays due to higher-than-normal December 2025 lodgement volumes.
In an informative notice issued last Friday, the Cape Town Deeds Office has confirmed that a total of 20 222 deeds were lodged as at 31st December 2025, which represents a significant increase compared to the previous year and is driving the delay.
As at 9th January 2026, 2 983 deeds have been held over for Level 1 examination while 4 068 deeds await Level 2 examination.
Regrettably, this has impacted the anticipated registration and finalisation of various property transactions.
Per the notice, Cape Town officials have indicated that efforts are ongoing to address the backlog and enhance turnaround times, with recovery projected for 20th January 2026.
