The South Gauteng Deeds Registry: Johannesburg confirms December 2025 working arrangements

In a concise notice issued by the Registrar of Deeds yesterday afternoon, the South Gauteng Deeds Registry: Johannesburg has confirmed its December 2025 working arrangements in anticipation of the festive season.

With the core aim of ensuring our clients are informed and that all transactions are registered timeously, please take note of the following information and critical dates for matters lodged at the South Gauteng Deeds Registry, as outlined in the notice:

  • The Johannesburg Deeds Office will close to clients and the public on Wednesday, 24th December 2025 and Wednesday, 31st December 2025 at 10h00.
  • To ensure matters are finalised timeously, conveyancers are encouraged to lodge their deeds and documents by Tuesday, 2nd December 2025 for registration on or before Friday, 19th December 2025.
  • Notably, no cut-off date for lodgements has been specified.
  • An extension for any deeds and documents ‘on prep’, which are not registered by Tuesday, 23rd December 2025, will be permitted until Thursday, 8th January 2026. After this date, automatic rejections will apply.

Although STBB’s 13 offices close at midday on Wednesday, 24th December 2025 and will reopen for business on Monday, 5th January 2026, we will endeavour to ensure that your transaction is registered on your selected date. As such, our team of conveyancing attorneys and paralegals are diligently liaising with all other role-players whose closing dates may differ.

For further information or assistance with your transaction, contact your dedicated conveyancer or paralegal.
