According to an official notice received this morning, the Western Cape Deeds Registry: Cape Town has confirmed its December-January arrangements in anticipation of the festive season.
With the intention of keeping our valued clients informed and to ensure that all transactions are registered timeously, please note the following dates for matters lodged at the Western Cape Deeds Registry:
- Any deeds and documents submitted on or before Wednesday,10th December 2025 will be processed by no later than Friday, 19th December 2025 for registration.
- Unfortunately, any deeds and documents lodged after Thursday, 11th December 2025 are not guaranteed to register by Friday, 19th December 2025.
- Any deeds and documents ‘on prep’ from Monday, 15th December 2025 must be registered by Friday, 9th January 2026, with two hand-in slots from 15th to 22nd December 2025.
- Crucially, from Monday, 15th December 2025, any deeds and documents ‘on prep’ won’t be automatically rejected within 5 days. Automatic rejections will be temporarily suspended until Friday, 9th January 2026 – with any affected deeds to be held over until Thursday, 8th January 2026.
Importantly, the notice indicates that the Deeds Office will – unusually – remain fully operational from Monday, 29th December to Wednesday, 31st December 2025, as well as from Friday, 2nd January 2026, with limited staff. Please note, however, that STBB’s 13 offices close at midday on Wednesday, 24th December 2025 and will reopen on Monday, 5th January 2026.
At STBB, our conveyancing attorneys and paralegals are conversant with the Deeds Office’s adjusted working arrangements and remain committed to ensuring that your transaction is registered on your chosen date and are closely liaising with all other role-players whose closing dates may differ.
