Blog | Attention individual taxpayers: SARS announces dates for 2025 filing season

The 2025 income tax filing season for individuals commences soon. Accordingly, clients who are registered for tax in South Africa should take note of the following key dates:

  • Auto-assessments will be issued from 7th to 20th July 2025
  • Non-provisional taxpayers not selected for auto-assessment can submit their tax returns from 21st July to 20th October 2025
  • Provisional taxpayers must file between 21st July 2025 and 19th January 2026

To avoid complications and delays with potential refunds, taxpayers must ensure that their personal details and banking information with SARS are up to date.

Furthermore, it is imperative that taxpayers take proactive steps to organise their documents, gather the necessary information, and meet all compliance-related deadlines, irrespective of whether they are preparing and completing their own returns or using a tax service provider.

As indicated, SARS will begin automatically assessing a large contingent of taxpayers using data made available by third parties, such as financial institutions and employers, in early July. Accordingly, taxpayers are advised to scrutinise and verify their auto-assessed returns as remedial action may be required if they wish to contest any information included.
