In accordance with some economists\u2019 predictions, and despite muted expectations of an increase, SARB declined to adjust the repo rate, which remains unchanged at 7%. Accordingly, the prime lending rate of commercial banks remains 10.5%.<\/p>\n<p>Against the backdrop of <a href=\"https:\/\/stbb.co.za\/dev2\/newsflash-sarb-hikes-the-repo-rate-why-now-is-the-time-for-smarter-property-planning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>continued geopolitical tensions<\/u><\/a>, global oil price instability, and rising consumer inflation, which hit 5% in June, the decision was not unanimous \u2013 with two of the MPC\u2019s six members favouring a 0.25% increase.
