Late last month, the Minister of Land Reform and Rural Development published annual amendments to the Schedule of Fees of Office<\/u><\/a>, as prescribed by the Regulations to the Deeds Registries Act.<\/p>\n

The amendments, which apply nationally and are scheduled to come into effect on 1st<\/sup> April 2026, include an across-the-board increase in the costs to register property transfers and mortgage bonds.<\/p>\n

For instance, the Deeds Office fee for a transfer with a transaction value of R2 million is now R1 738.00, with a maximum fee of R7 751.00 for transactions exceeding R20 million. On the other hand, the charge for registering a bond of which the capital amount is R3 million is R2 408.00, with the fee capped at R9 690.00 for high-value matters.<\/p>\n

The mandatory lodgement fee has increased to R52.00 per lodgement, while the fee for issuing a VA copy to replace a lost, destroyed, or misplaced title deed is now R658.00 per copy. The cancellation of a mortgage or notarial bond and a section 4(1)(b) application will each set you back R178.00, and requests for copies of title deeds will now cost R109.00 per copy.<\/p>\n
