On the 11th of this month, the Information Regulator issued a notice postponing the coming into effect of parts of section 58 of POPIA. This relates specifically to the process which stipulates that a formal application must be made to the Regulator for the “further processing” of personal data, e.g. processing for purposes other than those for which the data had been collected.<\/p>\n
It\u00a0 therefore does not affect the rest of the provisions of the Act which are, still, coming into effect on 1 July 2021. Although it is in the powers of the Regulator to grant a further 6 months extension for the general coming into effect of the Act, no such Notice has been issued.<\/p>\n
