KATIE FISHER

Katie is currently serving her Articles in the Commercial department in STBB's Claremont branch. She is a triple-major graduate from UCT, where she completed a BA in English and History (with a distinction in English) and a post-graduate LLB, in which she was placed on the Dean's Merit List, three years running. The combination of the academic subjects she pursued, has culminated in an in-depth awareness of the interplay between law, its history and language, specifically the role that language plays in creating a steadfast legal system. Katie also completed a number of short courses at UCT. These range from weekly debates and deliberation on what it means to be an active citizen on the African continent, to doing a six month course on Service and Social Justice in which she committed herself to weekly, one-on-one tutor sessions with students from underprivileged schools. These courses contributed to her desire to enter the world of law, as they reinforced how real change can only be made when laws are created to accommodate it. After hours and beyond her affinity for the legal world, you will find her on the beach, with a book, with friends or you will find her scouring the internet for cheap flights to remote countries to visit one day.
