Jesse Dreyer was appointed as a Candidate Attorney in January 2021 at STBB. He is currently serving his articles at the Cape Town Branch in the Conveyancing Department with Director James Phillipson.
During his time at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) he was part of a university organization called Street Law that promotes and enlightens the community about the Constitution at a grass roots level. Where he developed a mentorship role and inspired future volunteers and imparted valuable knowledge to marginalized communities and also drafted a series of presentations for the benefit of youth detained at youth detention centres. He would also participate in raising funds in order to achieve the organisations objectives. He also volunteered at the UWC Law Clinic where he assisted clients with drafting letters of demand, summons, particulars of claim, wills and instituting divorce proceedings.
Jesse was an active student that participated in various film competitions including UWC HIV & AIDS unit, Campaign against sexual violence short film competition 3rd place winner 2017, Western Province Blood Transfusion YouthTube Winner 2018 and was also an extra in the short film Finding Khaya made possible collaborative effort of AFDA honours students and students from Emerson College from Boston Massachusetts in the USA 2019. By virtue of his participation in these endevors he was able to develop a particular interest in film and media and how one is able to use it as a platform to assist the community. As a result, he was able to spread awareness regarding issues he found to be prevalent in society.
Jesse also participated in the Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition UWC team 2018
I learnt to work well within a team, to improvise and adapt swiftly to solve complex legal problems with a keen eye for meticulous detail. He also participated in Pathway for life leadership Programme 2018 and the prestigious Howard University International Business Law Programme 2018.
After obtaining his LLB degree at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in 2018, He considers it important to remain academically involved and in pursuance hereof, he completed his law school (LEAD) at the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2019 while also working part time as an online English teacher and a brand ambassador for a film school, he completed a TEFL qualification and became TEFL Certified 2019. He developed the skill to draft various legal documentation and further developed the skill of being able to critically analyse and scrutinize legal material. Formulate constructive arguments and completed a course relating to advocacy skills to which I acquired a certificate from the Black Lawyers Association.
Thereafter, he was doing his articles at a medium sized law firm practicing criminal, civil and labour law where during his time he was introduced to the exciting litigation practice, which includes drafting of legal agreements, contracts, consultations, legal research, litigation experience in arbitrations at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration and various Bargaining Councils along with the Magistrate Court and its various court procedures. He is passionate about providing professional client service. He is a young professional that enjoys seeking knowledge and solving problems.
Outside of the office Jesse is an avid Reader and runner. He also enjoys Script Writing as well as spending time with friends and family.
