JAZ VAN DER SPUY

Jaz van der Spuy has a particular interest in conveyancing, litigation and family law and is currently a Candidate Attorney in STBB's Commercial department at the Claremont branch. She obtained her BA (Law) and LLB degrees from Stellenbosch in 2018 and 2020 respectively. She continued her post-graduate studies at Stellenbosch University and in 2022 received her LLM degree, graduating cum laude. In line with a keen interest in human and social rights that was further developed while volunteering at a children's education centre in Kayamandi township in Stellenbosch, her thesis was based on gender-based violence and African regional law. During her LLM studies Jaz also gained a global perspective on international law and human rights when she completed a six-month exchange programme at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Alongside her passion for the law, people and travel, she has a deep love for the performing arts and singing in particular. She performed locally and internationally as a member of the Stellenbosch University choir for six years and currently sings in Cape Town's newly formed adult choir, Voces Cordis.
